We strongly believe in making a positive social impact on the communities where we work and live, through supporting organizations in which our employees are involved and by empowering and encouraging leadership at each of our facilities.

We collaborate with our employees and communities to determine areas of need and to identify those organizations that most effectively provide solutions to address those needs. This has included financial support for United Way, Habitat for Humanity  volunteerism, local family holiday season “adoption,” American Red Cross blood drive support, local school system “maintenance and clean-up” programs — there are far too many examples to list. We are proud, grateful and humbled by our team’s generosity.

NMBS RFL 2015In 2008, Steel Dynamics established the Steel Dynamics Foundation, Inc. which primarily supports organizations within our employee communities that address:

  • Higher education (STEM scholarships, university infrastructure, program support)
  • Human services (food banks, child mentoring and support, health organizations)
  • Community development (visual and musical arts, museums, community assets)

We believe each of these areas are important to enriching quality of life, supporting economic development and assisting those in less fortunate circumstances.

Enriching lives at Kids Unlimited

Red Cedar Bike Ride September 2015 (39)One of the greatest impacts we can have on our communities is giving an “opportunity” to children in need. As just one example, we support Kids Unlimited, which is located in Toledo, Ohio, a Steel Dynamics community.

Kids Unlimited’s mission is to provide affordable and enriching after school and summer programs to help children develop academic and social tools, while learning a strong sense of values and character to help them reach their fullest potential.

Also, we have an employee who volunteers as a mentor at Kids Unlimited, a great example of how we can make the greatest positive impact within our communities.
