Today, SMA hosted a webinar to discuss the Timber Innovation Act (TIA). The TIA is legislation that seeks to use taxpayer funds to promote the use of wood in tall building construction. This would come at the expense of competing materials, including steel. SMA is a founding member of the Stop the Timber Innovation Act Coalition, which was formed in 2016 in order to confront and defeat the TIA and similar measures.
SMA was joined on today’s call by coalition partners, including representatives from the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association and the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association, in updating respective memberships on the legislation. The group provided an overview of the various components of TIA, reviewed current House and Senate cosponsors, discussed building codes and primary coalition talking points. The webinar ended with a request for active engagement from member company organizations.
