Following today’s announcement that the Environmental Protection Agency is issuing a proposed action revisiting imposed federal “good neighbor” requirements for cross-state air pollution, SMA Executive Vice President Brandon Farris released the following statement:

“Steel manufacturers thank President Trump and Administration Zeldin for taking strong action once again to rightsize federal regulations and promote economic growth. Today’s announcement revisiting onerous Clean Air Act requirements is another positive step toward revitalizing American industry.

“At a time when American steel production is the global standard for environmental protection, including extensive controls for nitrogen oxide, the 2023 good neighbor rule would have imposed costly federal requirements on our industry for little benefit. We applaud the EPA for returning to a legal cooperative framework with the states in environmental regulation, allowing the steel industry to focus on creating community-sustaining jobs.”
