“Steel manufacturers are investing in America’s communities, deploying $25 billion in capital here in the U.S. to modernize, expand, and construct facilities; unfortunately, many of these investments are delayed by our nation’s cumbersome permitting laws,” writes Brandon Farris, vice president in charge of government affairs at SMA, in a letter to the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. “The sad reality is that red tape and complicated bureaucracy from the federal government make it difficult to complete critical economic development projects on time and on budget. We need to fix our broken permitting system.”
