SMA Applauds EPA Move to Preserve Reliable and Affordable Energy

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Steel Manufacturers Association Executive Vice President Brandon Farris released the following statement:

“The Steel Manufacturers Association applauds EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin for providing greater regulatory certainty and advancing American energy security. Repealing the 2024 requirements for fossil fuel power generation will help preserve and build the reliable, affordable electricity America needs to support manufacturing, investment, and economic growth.

“Domestic steelmakers have announced or begun $47 billion in new investments, and those investments depend on access to affordable and reliable power. The 2024 rules threatened to increase the cost of existing and new generation and, where compliance proved impossible, force retirements of power our grid still needs.

“At a time of explosive electricity demand growth, America cannot afford policies that make reliable generation more expensive or force needed capacity off the grid. We need every available kilowatt to power new mills, manufacturing facilities and the broader American economy.

“We thank Administrator Zeldin and the EPA for recognizing the importance of a strong American manufacturing sector. SMA looks forward to continuing to work with the Administration on practical regulations that protect our environment while powering economic growth, and American competitiveness.”
