SMA Applauds Bipartisan Senate Deal on Infrastructure

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Following yesterday’s bipartisan Senate vote (67-32) to advance debate on a trillion dollar infrastructure bill, Philip K. Bell, president of the Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) issued the statement below.

“The SMA is pleased to see a bipartisan Senate vote to advance an infrastructure bill that will help boost the American economy. Ideally, the bill will create thousands of good paying American jobs, while making our roads and bridges safer, our economy more competitive, and our climate more green. With approximately $550 billion in new federal spending towards steel intensive, traditional infrastructure projects, our country can begin to upgrade our national electric grid, extend broadband internet access, improve our water infrastructure, and modernize public transit.”

Bell added, “The good news is these critical investments will be implemented by Americans, for Americans, using the cleanest, most sustainably produced steel in the world, primarily found here in America. SMA commends the determination of President Biden and the bipartisan group of Senators that negotiated this deal. We encourage Congress to pass infrastructure legislation as expeditiously as possible so that our nation can get to work on these important projects.”
