SMA Applauds Bipartisan Support of Made in America Infrastructure

Washington DC – Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) president, Philip K. Bell issued the following statement in response to the Congressional Steel Caucus letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy urging that strong Buy America preferences be included in any infrastructure investment package.

Bell said, “Yesterday, a bipartisan group of over 50 Members of Congress affirmed that Buy America procurement policies that promote using steel made in America by Americans is a trade compliant approach to create jobs, and strengthen our economy. Using American made steel is also the most sustainable way to “Build Back Better” because it reduces the amount of high CO2 emitting foreign steel imports.”

Bell added, “I would like to thank Steel Caucus co-chairmen Frank Mrvan (D-IN), Conor Lamb (D-PA), and co-vice chairmen Rick Crawford (R-AR), and Mike Bost (R-IL) for leading this effort and assembling the bipartisan group calling for stronger Buy America preferences. The domestic steel industry is ready, willing, and able to play a pivotal role in rebuilding and upgrading our Nation’s critical infrastructure.”
