SMA Applauds Legislation Designed to Stem Surge in Steel Imports from Mexico

The SMA thanks Congressional Steel Caucus leaders Frank Mrvan and Rick Crawford and Senators Sherrod Brown and Tom Cotton for simultaneously introducing legislation in both the House and the Senate that will help end the massive surge of Mexico steel coming across our border since the signing of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

“Over the past year, the SMA has worked closely with the office of the U.S. Trade Representative to curtail the flood of Mexican steel, and this legislation is designed to compel Mexico to act,” SMA President Philip K. Bell said. “This bipartisan, bicameral legislation provides USTR with additional tools to bring Mexico to the table so that an agreement to return steel trade to reasonable levels and live up to the spirit of the USMCA is reached.”
