Washington, D.C.  – President Donald Trump has formally nominated Andrew Wheeler as the next Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (“US EPA”). This nomination comes following the resignation of Scott Pruitt in July 2018. The SMA applauds this nomination, and looks forward to working with Administrator Wheeler in advancing the environmental policy priorities of 21st-century EAF steelmakers.

“SMA looks forward to continuing our strong relationship with the new leadership at US EPA. Nominating Andrew wheeler allows this Congress to prioritize environmental initiatives through provision of regulatory certainty and transparency that will further promote domestic steelmaking,” said Philip K. Bell, president, Steel Manufacturers Association.

Andrew Wheeler will take office at US EPA pending Senate confirmation and a resolution to reopen the federal government.
