WASHINGTON, D.C., September 6, 2019 – Today, Nucor Corporation announced John J. Ferriola will retire as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the end of 2019. Ferriola will be succeeded by Leon J. Topalian who was named President and Chief Operating Officer, effective September 5, 2019, and will be named CEO on January 1, 2020, in connection with Nucor’s planned succession process.

Bell, president of the SMA. “John’s contributions to the steel industry are extremely relevant and have positioned Nucor as a 21st century steelmaker and a global leader. John’s contributions to steelmaking have left an indelible mark on the industry.”
Ferriola has been with the company for 28 years and had largely contributed to Nucor’s commitment in helping their teammates build lives, their customers build businesses, their shareholders build wealth and their local operating communities build futures. Nucor continues to be an industry leader in innovation, investment, and public policy issues.
Bell added, “the SMA looks forward to working with newly appointed President and COO, Leon Topalian and the leadership team at Nucor.”
