SMA member SSAB Americas this week announced an investment of about $74 million to expand its heat treat capacity at the SSAB facility in Axis, Alabama.
“This expansion will bolster our capacity to produce high-strength steel brands such as Hardox and Strenx and will also increase SSAB Alabama’s truck shipping capacity,” Andy Bramstedt, general manager of SSAB Alabama (pictured, left), said in a statement.
The project, scheduled for completion in early 2027, will include construction of a new building with a state-of-the-art tempering furnace, and improvements to the infrastructure. SSAB Alabama anticipates the creation of 12 new jobs.
