SMA President Philip K. Bell’s Testimony to U.S. International Trade Commission

SMA President Philip K. Bell last week offered sworn testimony at a hearing of the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington.

The hearing was part of the USITC’s fact-finding investigation of emissions associated with steel and aluminum products made in the United States. In the coming months, the commission will ask steelmakers to supply emissions data for their steel products in dozens of categories.

We expect the investigation, which was requested by the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office, to reveal what we already know: SMA members make the cleanest steel in the world. The USITC report is due to USTR in early 2025.

Other witnesses at the USITC hearing included Dave Miracle, of SMA member Nucor, and Jeff Hansen, of SMA member Steel Dynamics.
