The Steel Manufacturers Association provided a statement for the record to the House Subcommittee on Energy ahead of an oversight hearing of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The hearing comes as steel manufacturers are making sizable capital investments amid unprecedented electricity demand growth. SMA underscored the importance of affordable, reliable energy for industrial energy consumers.

“SMA respectfully encourages the Subcommittee to discuss with the commissioners their efforts to ensure availability of reliable, affordable power for industrial energy consumers…,” wrote SMA Executive Vice President, Brandon Farris. “The success of ongoing efforts to reshore manufacturing will depend on FERC striking an appropriate balance in this regard, as well as on the advancement of related policies to permit energy infrastructure.”
