Today, Steel Manufacturers Association Executive Vice President Brandon Farris released the following statement:

“The Steel Manufacturers Association applauds passage of the continuing resolution, funding the government and extending critical highway authorities through December 11.

“Government shutdowns serve no one, and steel manufacturers depend on trade enforcement activities funded by this bill. They are essential to maintaining a level playing field against foreign competitors that rely on subsidies, overcapacity, and other unfair practices. Even a partial government shutdown undermines these efforts and creates unnecessary uncertainty for manufacturers.

“Steel manufacturers strongly supported the extension of surface transportation authorities included in the CR. This means state departments of transportation can continue work on critical infrastructure projects that drive demand for American-made steel. SMA will keep working with congressional leaders and committees of jurisdiction to deliver a robust, long-term highway bill.”
