Steel Manufacturers Applaud POWER Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Steel Manufacturers Association Executive Vice President Brandon Farris issued the following statement:

“SMA applauds Chairman Guthrie’s Permitting Our Way to an Energy Resurgence (POWER) Act, a bold package that addresses a critical need for American manufacturing: affordable, reliable energy.

“America cannot outcompete or outproduce the rest of the world without power. Our permitting system has become too slow, too costly, and too unpredictable. As electricity demand surges and manufacturers invest billions to build in America, bold policy solutions are essential.

“The POWER Act includes several reforms that are critical to America’s steel industry and recommended in SMA’s “Plan for American Power.” From permitting reform to keeping reliable power sources online, to reforming the National Ambient Air Quality Standards, the policies in this package will speed investment, strengthen domestic manufacturing, improve energy reliability, and create good-paying American jobs.

“We look forward to continuing working with Chairman Guthrie, the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Congress to deliver policies that allow America to build, compete, and lead the world once again.”
