WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Steel Manufacturers Association Executive Vice President Brandon Farris released the following statement:

“SMA applauds the House’s unanimous passage of the Protecting American Industry and Labor from International Trade Crimes (PAIL) Act, led by Representative Ashley Hinson.

“Steelmakers have been on the frontlines of combating China’s illegal trade practices for far too long. The PAIL Act is an important step toward strengthening federal enforcement and ensuring those who engage in tariff evasion, illegal transshipment and other fraudulent trade practices are held accountable.

“Strengthening enforcement against trade fraud is critical to our national security and manufacturing competitiveness. The PAIL Act will help ensure American companies and workers are not disadvantaged by those who seek to evade our trade laws.

“We thank Representative Hinson and the bipartisan coalition of lawmakers who supported this important legislation and urge the Senate to pass the PAIL Act.”
